ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE, THE WORK WE LOVE

Get to know The Mill’s Felix Urquiza

We were lucky enough to meet Felix Urquiza, a Mexico City-born VFX artist on our latest shoot with Partizan.

Felix currently serves as the Modeling and Texture Supervisor over at The Mill in Los Angeles. His career began at Art Institute where he studied Media Arts and Animation, before being hired by Method and then Hydrix. Now at The Mill, he works on clients in commercials, game cinematics, and film, and manages a team of artists to boot.

“Going back to Mexico City was like a dream come true!” Felix said of his upcoming work and our collaboration. “Since the start of my career I had always wished to get an opportunity to do a shoot in Mexico City, just never knew when that would be or if it would happen. When I received the news that I would be shooting in Mexico City I couldn’t believe it! The excitement to get back to the city I was born in was truly special. I didn’t know what to expect, but upon arrival it felt a little surreal, everyone I met was so friendly, very welcoming, and it felt really nice to be amongst a very talented Mexican production company.”

Everyone I met was so friendly, very welcoming, and it felt really nice to be amongst a very talented Mexican production company.

A look through his portfolio shows work for Bacardi, Honda, Coca-Cola, Activision, Call of Duty, Chevy, Verizon, Toyota, Apple, Mattel, Nike, Miller, Geico, Chase, Pepsi, Gatorade, Levi’s, Discovery Channel, and Audi, and that just scratches the surface. Throw feature credits along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean, Knight and Day, Jonah Hex, and the A-Team on that list, and you begin to have a sense of all that Felix is artistically capable of, and his sources of inspiration, like the city he was born in.

Of the role that Mexico City plays on his craft, Felix explains, “the city itself is full of amazing traditional art and as far as I can remember, Mexican art has always been an inspiration. My favorite is the traditional Dia de Los Muertos art pieces… I’m fascinated by it! That has always been one of my favorites since I was a child. The last time I was in the city was when I was 11 I believe and I remember going to the pyramids and one of the things that struck me was the Aztec artwork; I remember being a bit obsessed. So I definitely believe my roots play a part in my artistic passion.

Keep up with all of Felix’s work here.
