ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE, THE WORK WE LOVE

Touring Luis Barragan’s Cuadra San Cristóbal

Cuadra San Cristóbal sits just outside Mexico City, as a stunning equestrian estate designed by architect Luis Barragan.

Since its construction in 1968, the destination has received global acclaim for what has become Barragan’s signature plays with color and light. The whole property consists of over seven acres of palazzo, a stunning house, stables, two swimming pools, a cascade of water, and a pool that’s welcome to the horses who call the space home.

People unfamiliar with Barragan’s work might recognize the home as the backdrop of Louis Vuitton’s campaign last year with Léa Seydoux. the campaign featured the pantone walls and gorgeous color juxtapositions front and center against LV’s best fashion and handbag designs (with of course a horse or two featured as well).

Guests at the ranch, which is open by appointment only, can enjoy those angular walls that are a hallmark of Barragan’s design, with saturated colors unlike any other. As Curbed notes, the estate is “a triumph of geometry, and displays the power of earthen tones, and the genius of simplicity.”
