ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE

Location Guide: The Restaurants of Gabriela Cámara

Food enthusiasts near and far will be familiar with the name Gabriela Cámara.

While she’s preparing for a venture in San Francisco called “Diana La Cazadora” later this year, Gabriela’s delicious claim to fame resides right in Mexico City, and The Lift are frequent patrons.

Take Contramar, for instance. The finest, freshest sustainable seafood you will find in Mexico City, open only for lunch (though lunch is 12:30 to 6, usually). They are famous for their tuna tostada which doesn’t disappoint (cue our mouths watering right now), but the gamut of seafood options are yours for the taking, including incredible clam and shrimp ceviches. Did we mention dessert? Enjoy some fig tart with a shot of espresso and licor 43.

The restaurant feels like an institution in Mexico, very busy but with a waitstaff that makes “professional” seem like a mild word. It’s a perfectly curated world that is all Gabriela, which brings us to restaurant numero dos…

MeroToro compliments great service with some of the best plates you will find in Mexico. Open from 1:30 to 11:00 pm (so best reserved for your late night eats) in Colonia Condesa, MeroToro experiments with surf-and-turf-esque food in a refined setting. You can still get your ceviches and seafood reminiscent of Contramar, but also delicious fresh salads, pork, and beef that you’ll remember for a lifetime.

In short, now that we are good and hungry, visit one or both of her restaurants. Beyond being a friend to The Lift, there’s never enough Gabriela Cámara eats. Flip through the gallery above for some of our favorites from Contramar and Merotoro.
