ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE

Location Guide: Designers/Architects, Find Your Inspiration Here

Designers, architects and other avid amateur all-things-beautiful enthusiasts, do not leave Mexico City without going to the Luis Barragán House and Studio.

Situated a short drive outside of Chapultepec, the house of the famed Mexico architect stands as a museum to his legacy and a walk through his life. Indeed, the house stands as his ultimate creative lab, an experimentation in many ideas Barragán would go on to use in his properties throughout the city. He lived there from 1948 until his death in 1988, and over that time he was continually editing the property to fit his needs and design sensibilities.

We will leave the facts to the amazing tour guides of the Fundación de Arquitectura Tapatía. Complete with color block walls, amazing art, incredibly functional design and a stunning garden to boot, it’s impossible not to feel inspired walking through the casa. Sift through the pictures above for a brief glimpse of the space and be sure to check out the house/studio in full if you are local. Find the hours here.

Pro tip: it costs about 500 pesos extra, but you’re going to want to pay the fee to take photographs. It’s well worth the money (and it all goes towards the Fundación, so win win!).
