They are one of Mexico’s most successful bands, topping charts and selling millions of records since 2003, and they have just been featured in YouTube Music’s Artist Spotlight Stories. Within two days of its release, No Hay Límite already received nearly half a million views, indicating just how popular and meaningful Banda MS is in Mexico and beyond.
The 20-minute film was directed by Vincenzo Angileri and The Lift Local’s Andrés Arochi, produced by Helena Medina, and executive produced by Danny Goodman and Gabriel Stavenhagen. It is a spirited celebration of the band, offering intimate scenes with members Sergio Lizárraga, Walo Silvas, Alan Ramírez, while also exploring the impact of their music on people around the world, and specifically in their hometown, Mazatlán, Sinaloa.
“Banda MS takes the tradition of the genre so called ‘regional mexicano’ to the global stage by storm,” Helena described of the band’s international notoriety. While No Hay Límite illustrates the band’s widespread fame and success, from a Zoom call with Snoop Dogg to sold out shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York City, the heart of the film resides on a very local level. “We had two small units and took the show on the road. We went straight to the Banda MS hometown, Mazatlán, Sinaloa and soon enough we were in Sergio’s home listening to the new music he was cooking. With only two days to shoot and coordinate with the band, we managed to have great conversations and visit all the special places we needed.”
“In teaming up with directors Vincenzo and Andrés, who also shot the film, we filmed a love letter to the emblematic port to showcase the place they call home,” Helena added.
