The Lift Founder, Avelino Rodríguez, appointed as the new president of Canacine

Mexico’s National Chamber of the Film Industry (Canacine) announced the appointment of Avelino Rodríguez, The Lift’s CEO, as the organization’s new president for the upcoming four-year term.

The chamber, comprised of over 200 members, joined in assembly to vote by an absolute majority for Avelino. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the importance of cinematographic and audiovisual activity in our country, not only for its economic contribution to the industry itself but also to tourism and foreign investment.

With emotional applause, the audience thanked the outgoing president, Fernando De Fuentes Sainz for taking on the enormous challenge of keeping the industry afloat during the pandemic.

The film industry in Mexico has proven to be an essential asset not only for its strong cultural value in Mexican society but also for its contributions to the country’s economic development through the generation of jobs and direct and indirect income.

According to a recent study coordinated by Dr. Clemente Ruíz Duran of the UNAM, while the average productivity of the Mexican economy is stagnating with an average growth of 1 percent, the film industry has grown at an annual rate of 4.7 percent.

We are confident that Avelino’s leadership will consolidate the excellent momentum of the industry in the country, which continues to position itself as a pillar of national culture.
