ALL, THE MEXICO WE LOVE, THE WORK WE LOVE

A Week of VR: Recapping Ciclope Festival and the VR Summit

What a week of virtual and augmented reality we had here in Mexico.

First off, we are happy to report that the very first Ciclope Festival in Mexico City was a resounding success! With over double the headcount we were expecting, every participant was wowed by the engaging and innovative presentation from Framestore’s Mike McGee.

Agencies, brand representatives, production and post production experts were able to see the incredible capabilities of virtual reality from the Oculus Rift. Mike presented a number of case studies, including CG animation for the likes of The Avengers, to the more live-action experience for brands like Merrell. And with a portfolio boasting work for Game of Thrones, Interstellar, Samsung and Volvo (to name a few!), Mike was surely the person to guide us into this exciting new (virtual) reality.

But while we still have your attention, The Lift’s Head of Production Ihxel Perez headed up to Los Angeles for a VR Summit in Hollywood, attended by over 1600 people. With presentations from Google and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, among others, the two-day conference centered around the endless possibilities of VR from entertainment applications to space travel to psychology and beyond.

One thing is for certain, it is an exciting time to be thinking about VR and we are only scraping the surface of a thrilling technology.
